About Us

We work for the community

A little over three decades ago, a man with a humanitarian vision, a vocation for helping, a highly sensitive demeanor, and with hope for the future named Pietro Rizzuto began working for his community, dedicating a good part of his time and resources to support those who needed it most.

Years later, inspired by his journey, our foundation was born.

In August 2014 and looking for positive change, as the Senator would have liked, the Pietro Rizzuto Foundation was born, a non-profit organization that undertakes actions to create opportunities for all, reduce inequality in the community, and protect children.

Of course, to understand the great impact of the legacy of Senator Pietro Rizzuto and our goals and mission, we must first know his story and delve into his journey toward building a better world, with more options and alternatives for those who least have.

Born in 1934 in Cattolica Eraclea, a small agricultural region in the Italian countryside, the young Pietro Rizzuto decided to move to Canada at the early age of 20. His new home awoke his interest in supporting the people who need it most, and with hard work and a lot of effort, he began to get involved in helping and providing opportunities to the Italian immigrant community of which he later became a leader.

Years later, his altruistic and community work was recognized, and Pietro Rizzuto was named the first non-Canadian-born senator and the youngest in its entire history, up to that moment. From his new position as a world leader, he continued to work for a more inclusive future where everyone lives equally.

During his time in office, the Senator was invited to vacation in Nuevo Vallarta by the then Mexican ambassador to Canada, Agustín Barrios Gómez. Once there, Pietro Rizzuto fell deeply in love with the destination, since it reminded him of his native Italy, and thus, he decided to return in 1984 to help the region grow and build the first All-Inclusive hotel in what we know today as Riviera Nayarit, forever carving in stone the first bastion of the many that constitute his great legacy.

The impact of Senator Pietro Rizzuto, who died in Montreal in 1997, continues to grow and expand. His kindness and vision for the future have touched hundreds of hearts and inspired countless initiatives, such as the creation of our foundation in 2014, which proudly bears his name.

To date, the Pietro Rizzuto Foundation has collaborated with many families, granting children access to health, education, and decent housing. The Banderas Bay region has been forever transformed, thanks to the kind soul of a generous man and the undeniable mark he has left on all of us.
